LGBTQ+ Group

The LGBTQ+ group exists as a safe space for LGBTQ+ faculty and staff on campus to share joys and concerns, and to advocate for LGBTQ+-inclusive policies and attitudes on campus.


Faculty and Staff of Color Group

The mission of the Faculty and Staff of Color Group at Susquehanna University is to promote the interests and advocate for underrepresented members of the faculty and staff.

This organization was created to:

  • Foster an open-minded environment in which issues of inclusive, equity and bias can be effectively identified, directly challenged, and intelligently discussed.
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and the discussion of issues of concern to faculty and staff of color at Susquehanna University.
  • Promote the recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, professional development, and advancement of faculty and staff of color at the University.
  • Provide a mutually supportive social and cultural community for faculty and staff of color at Susquehanna University.
  • Expand and strengthen the relationship and involvement of faculty and staff of color with the wider University community.


International Faculty and Staff Group
The International Faculty and Staff group exists to foster cultural exchange, build community, provide a forum for discussion, and to advocate for faculty and staff of international origin. The group strives to promote recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, and advancement of International faculty and staff.

Providing a forum for discussion of issues related to diverse cultural traditions, work environments, and languages, IFS group seeks to make Susquehanna a truly diversity-friendly place to work in.

Wellness at SU

Your Personal Healthcare Advocate—ConnectCare3

ConnectCare3 offers independent, third-party patient advocate services for simple to severe illnesses and wellness culture change to help prevent chronic health conditions. They maximize your healthcare dollar and ensure employee peace of mind. Here are just a few of the things CC3 can do for you or another insured dependent on your Susquehanna health insurance plan:

  • Help you understand your diagnosis and treatment options
  • Locate expert physicians and hospitals for your specific illness
  • Identify multiple options for what you need most, including Centers of Excellence and specialized treatments to help you make the most informed decisions
  • Assist with any medical or behavioral health conditions, not just critical ones
  • Attend physician and hospital appointments with you as needed

Wellness Initiative

Susquehanna University is pleased to continue the Wellness Initiative, providing an incentive for employees to increase awareness of their health and wellbeing. This initiative is voluntary and provides a financial incentive of up to $500 each year for participation in certain screenings, including an annual physical and health risk assessment.

Tuition/Education Benefits

The tuition benefit provides full-time employees and their spouse the opportunity to advance their education by taking undergraduate courses at Susquehanna University after one year of service. The tuition benefit also provides support for eligible dependent children of full-time employees to advance their education toward earning a first bachelor’s degree through tuition remission at Susquehanna University, the Tuition Exchange program, or the ELCA Tuition Exchange with another college or university after three years of service. Part-time benefits-eligible employees are eligible for some prorated tuition benefits.

Travel Assistance

Travel Assistance is available when employees travel more than 100 miles from home or internationally for up to 180 days for business or pleasure. It offers aid before and during the trip including:

  • Passport, visa, weather and currency exchange information, health hazards advice and inoculation requirements
  • Emergency ticket, credit card and passport replacement, funds transfer and missing baggage
  • 24/7/365 phone access to registered nurses for health and medication information, symptom decision support, and help understanding treatment options
  • Emergency evacuation to the nearest adequate medical facility and medically necessary repatriation to the employee’s home, including repatriation of remains
  • Connection to medical care providers, interpreter services, a local attorney, consular office or bail bond services
  • Return travel companion if travel is disrupted due to emergency transportation services or return dependent children if left unattended due to prolonged hospitalization
  • Logistical arrangements for ground transportation, housing and/or evacuation in the event of political unrest and social instability; for more complex situations, assists with making arrangements with providers of specialized security services

Retirement Plan

TIAA Retirement Program

Susquehanna University is making saving for retirement under our 403(b) plan easy by offering an Automatic Enrollment feature for new benefits-eligible employees. New benefits-eligible employees will be automatically enrolled with a 5% employee contribution 30 days after their hire date. If an employee wishes to opt out of the automatic enrollment, they may must do so within the 30-day period by making a salary deferral election.

After 12 months of eligible service, employees contributing 5% of their salary will receive a University contribution of 9%. Employees contributing less than 5% will receive a contribution of 2% after meeting the service requirement.

Prior service at an educational institution will count toward the 12 month waiting period. Participation in an existing TIAA account will waive the waiting period.

Student employees and non-benefits-eligible employees are excluded from participating in the university's retirement plan.

Planning for Retirement

Planning for retirement is not something you think about once and then forget about it until you approach retirement age. You should take advantage of the many resources provided by the university and by TIAA. The TIAA website provides tools and calculators, live webinars, and a variety of publications to provide you with the information you are seeking.

I enjoy being an educator working with young minds particularly so in the liberal arts tradition where we learn to question our traditional truths. Critical thinking is central to developing active citizens since we have to solve many complex problems in contemporary society.
