Communications Professor Named a Fulbright Specialist

Randy Hines

Randy Hines

Associate Professor of Communications Randy Hines has been selected as a Fulbright Senior Specialist in communications and journalism. He will teach advertising and public relations for five weeks this summer at the Altai Academy of Economics and Law in Barnaul, Russia.

"I'm really looking forward to teaching several classes in those two areas and to assisting the faculty in developing their skills in these disciplines. I'll be leaving several books and resources behind to help (Altari Academy) faculty members in the future," Hines says.

Hines teaches public relations and advertising at Susquehanna University. He is the lead author of two textbooks on the subjects, The Writer's Toolbox: A Comprehensive Guide for Public Relations and Business Communications and the forthcoming Print Matters: How to Write Great Advertising.

SU Receives Grant to Further Study-Abroad Opportunities

Susquehanna University has received a grant from the Institute for Study Abroad Foundation (IFSA) to create a new scholarship program for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years. The program, Study Abroad off the Beaten Path, will award up to $3,500 toward travel expenses for six Susquehanna students per semester to participate in study-abroad programs in Asia, Africa or Latin America.

In return for the scholarship, recipients are expected to "give back" by reporting on their experiences or promoting the program after their return to the Susquehanna campus. The IFSA grant will assist students in fulfilling the requirements of a new central curriculum, slated for implementation in fall 2009. The new curriculum will require all students to participate in a cross-cultural experience before graduation.
