Come celebrate with Susquehanna!
It's a special year for Susquehanna University, and we want you to join us as we celebrate 150 years. The festivities began in New York City on March 7, and we haven't come back to earth yet. The pride and joy we felt that evening when the music of alumni, students and faculty filled Carnegie Hall will be hard to recreate. In fact, one of the Carnegie Hall staff said, “I have heard a lot of choral performances over the years, but your school is really excellent.” A proud moment to say the least, but the year is just beginning. Now, we're looking toward the fall when we will come together on campus for Homecoming Reunion Weekend 2008.
Whether your memories date back 60 years or one year, there is something for you to remember and celebrate at this year's Homecoming Reunion Weekend. The campus will be alive with activity Oct. 3–5. Plan to spend the weekend with us. You won't want to miss this year's events.
In addition to five-year reunions, the weekend will feature a sesquicentennial parade and a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new science building on Saturday, in addition to a football game, men's and women's soccer games, children's activities and alumni tent festivities. On Sunday, we will honor our 2008 alumni award recipients, as well as all of our award recipients throughout history.
Hotels are filling up quickly for this weekend. Please call the Office of Alumni Relations if you need help finding hotel accommodations. We also have arranged for shuttle service to run continuously from hotels in Selinsgrove, Danville and Lewisburg. Babysitting service also is available for your convenience.
We are excited to kick off events with our newest regional chapters as well. On April 5, the New York City chapter held its inaugural event at the Taj Lounge in New York City. Then, on April 24, the Pittsburgh regional chapter held its first event in a private luxury suite at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates took on the St. Louis Cardinals. We are grateful to the leaders of these chapters and all those who have come forward to support development of them. We look forward to seeing new chapters emerge throughout the coming year.
We are grateful, too, for the support of alumni who serve as liaisons to prospective students. We are in the midst of making yield calls, during which alumni reach out to accepted students to help convince them to attend Susquehanna University. Alumni are our greatest resource in telling the Susquehanna story to others.
Finally, it's a pleasure to welcome our newest alumni: members of the Class of 2008. Congratulations! As you complete the first phase of your Susquehanna experience, we hope the lifetime journey you are beginning will include frequent opportunities to connect with friends, professors and the Selinsgrove campus.
We continue to be energized by the excitement and help from our alumni. If you are interested in volunteering with regional chapters, admissions recruitment, reunion planning or other activities, please give me a call.
See you in Selinsgrove this October!
