From the Dean

Welcome to the School of Arts, Humanities and Communications!  Our nine departments offer many exciting degree fields in the performing and liberal arts.

Students choose majors or minors from four broad areas:

  • Arts – through study of theatre, music, art and graphic design;
  • Humanities – through study in modern languages, creative writing, history, English, philosophy, and religion;
  • Communications – seven emphases, including broadcasting, public relations, and corporate communications;
  • Education – pursuing elementary and secondary teacher certification programs.

Our goal is to prepare graduates for success in an increasingly diverse, fast-paced, global and complex world.

We challenge students to merge theory and practice, thereby gleaning the most from their Susquehanna education.  Each program involves learning by doing—through performance, research, internships, production, service learning and off-campus experiences.

The school’s distinguished faculty emphasizes critical thinking and analytical competency, student leadership and ethical decision-making.  We also nurture creativity and the individual voice.  Our eclectic backgrounds provide a wealth of knowledge, a commitment to continuing scholarship, and a love of teaching.

The diversity of our majors and programs provides ample opportunity for students and faculty to share their intellectual passion.  Collaborative learning is second nature to our community.  Student-faculty research and opportunities for experiential learning create an exciting environment in and outside of the classroom.

I encourage you to visit Susquehanna and see for yourself how our dynamic community can change your life!
