Performance Opportunities
Music students who desire a specialized emphasis in performance may choose this degree option. Accepted majors possess superior skill in the given performance area and demonstrate that skill at forums and recitals. Students who complete this program typically continue study at the graduate level and/or teach in a private studio.
Major performance areas include piano, organ, voice, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion and guitar.
Ensembles
Students may join a number of lively instrument and vocal groups of varying musical genres. More than a dozen groups provide practice and performance opportunities for students to collaborate with classmates and faculty.
Chamber Music
Smaller, specialized ensembles provide an excellent opportunity for students to perform in a variety of settings, on- and off- campus, while gaining experience as part of a chamber ensemble.
Solo Performances
Music Performance majors are required to present a half recital (usually in collaboration with another student) during the junior year, and a full solo performance in the senior year.
Students gain additional experience in Forum, a required course which provides the opportunity for students to perform for an audience of their peers and the music faculty. Studio classes, coached by a faculty member, are also provided for more informal performance experience.
