Two Softball Players Earn All-Conference Honors
SELINSGROVE, PA -- Two Susquehanna University softball players are among the
22 student-athletes named to the 2008 All-Landmark Conference Softball Team, as voted by the conference's seven head coaches.
Freshman pitcher Cara Swerdlow (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) earned first-team honors, while sophomore catcher Kelli Holota (Livingston, N.J./Livingston)
garnered a spot on the second team.
Swerdlow had a breakout rookie season for the Crusaders, striking out 156 batters to break the team single-season record of 135 set by Kristen Hogan in 199. She struck out a single-game-record 14 batters against Drew. Swerdlow finished the season with a 2.74 ERA and a record of 4-9, pitching 10 complete games. She walked only 27 batters all season.
Holota played in 30 games for Susquehanna, batting .284. She was second on the team in hits with 27 and in doubles with seven. She also sported a .992 fielding percentage, commiting only two errors all year, and made 218 putouts.
The All-Landmark Team includes a first and second team with 12 honorees on each team, with the selections being made by position.
