2008 Field Hockey Program Overview

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Intercollegiate field hockey has been a part of Susquehanna University since as far back as 1947.

Under third-year head coach Amy Cohen, the SU women have been consistently competitive both in terms of on- and off-the-field success.

Christine Ottley '08 became Cohen's first all–conference honoree at SU when she landed on the all–Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference second team in 2006. Ottley was also honored with inclusion on the 2006 MAC fall all–academic team along with eight teammates: Becki Nash '08, Ashley Rowell '07, Megan Sites '08, Kristen Epting '09 (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) (below), Julie Yingling '08, Jenni Iacovone '06, Lyndsay Meabon '08 and Jess Weiss '08.

The Crusaders fought to a respectable sixth-place finish in the MAC in 2006, but improved on their overall record in 2007 as they switched to the newly formed Landmark Conference.

That year, the women finished with a record of 7-12 but held their opponents scoreless in six games and accumulated a total of 34 goals in winning efforts. The impressive 2007 offense led the Landmark in shots per game with a 16.68 average.

In addition, three more Crusaders claimed all–conference honors, including Andrea Fiori '10 (West Trenton, N.J./Lawrenceville School), who earned first-team honors. Jenelle Anthony '10 (Saylorsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and Sites joined Fiori on the first-ever all–Landmark Conference field hockey team as Anthony and Sites garnered second-team selections.

Fiori (right) played in all 19 games and led Susquehanna in goals and points with 14 and 30, respectively. Her most impressive performance came on September 12, 2007, when she tabbed a career-high five goals in the Crusaders' 9-0 win against Wells College.

Anthony was second on the team in goals in 2007 with nine. Sites played in all 19 games and finished third on the team in goals with six.

Meabon was the primary goalie for the Crusaders in 2007 and played in all 19 games, including the six shutout wins. She finished the season with 156 saves and a goals against average of 2.14.

Julia Amendola '11 (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) is one of the team's top returners in 2008. Last year, Amendola led all SU freshmen in goals and points with three and seven, respectively.

Six Crusaders earned a spot on the 2007 Landmark Conference fall academic honor roll, including Meabon, Ottley, Sites, Weiss, Yingling and 2008 captain Epting. Moreover, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association honored Epting, Meabon, Ottley, Caitlin Peterson '11 (York, Pa./Central York), Sites, Yingling, Amendola and Lauren Crawford '11 (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) with inclusion on its 2007 Division III National Academic Squad in addition to honoring the entire program with an academic team award.
