Business Administration | Brooklyn, N.Y.

Raised in bustling Brooklyn and educated at two bucolic New England boarding schools, Greg Jones '10 was looking for a smaller liberal arts college with an outstanding business school. Welcome to Susquehanna.

"I wanted to be sure that the faculty knew my name and I wasn't just a Social Security number, but rather someone they knew and were able to help," he says. "That's something I was used to and wanted to continue."

The first day of classes, his professors gave him their cell and home phone numbers and e-mail addresses in case he had questions about an assignment or wanted to talk about a paper. He also was, and continues to be, impressed with his professors' credentials and backgrounds.

"Most of them have worked for Fortune 50 or Fortune 100 companies, so they know the work ethic of such companies and expect a lot more out of you," says Jones. For the past two years, he has interned in Manhattan at one such company, Time Warner, where he procured paper for the media giant's print publications.

Because he ultimately hopes to run his own business, Jones was attracted by the opportunity to study entrepreneurship. Before the dean's list student runs his own company, however, he plans on pursuing a joint law-M.B.A. degree.

Jones is a member of the Student Conduct Board, works in the Office of Admissions and conducts campus tours. Crediting the university for its efforts to enhance diversity, he also works in the Center for Diversity and Social Justice, and is a member of the Brotherhood, a diversity-oriented club for male students.

As a sophomore, he proudly helped bring a new organization to campus: the Susquehanna chapter of Phi Beta Sigma, the university's first historically black fraternity. "The faculty and administration were really behind us, and I've always wanted to have a brother," Jones says. "Black fraternities and sororities — one was also recently formed at Susquehanna — love to give back to the community, and that's something I truly am a firm believer in."
